On this page you can find reference to, and explanation of, older and discontinued hearing aid ranges from Phonak. Most of these devices are no longer available. You can take a look at modern Phonak hearing aids here.
Phonak have just introduced their latest hearing aid platform (August 2018) which they are calling the Marvel. It is their latest range of Made For Any Phone hearing aids. The devices truly look amazing and they are being offered in four levels of technology. They have been massively well received by both the buying public and professionals alike. Phonak have also introduced an upgrade to the devices which offered even better connectivity and a brand new smartphone app with much more power which they called Marvel 2.0. The Marvel range is made up of the Audeo (Receiver In Canal hearing aids), the Bolero (Behind The Ear hearing aids) and the Virto (In The Ear hearing aids), all of which you can read about below.
The Audeo Marvel 90 hearing aids are £1700.00 per hearing aid with 2 hearing aids avaiable at a reduced price.

This is the first part of the Marvel platform, the first to be introduced will be the Audeo (their Receiver In Canal devices) is the first to be introduced. The Marvel Audeo family will be made up of five hearing aids of which two will be rechargeable. The smallest traditional Zinc Air battery size will be the 312. The hearing aids will not all be available initially, below you can see a quick explanation of the devices and their availability. The devices will be available in four levels of hearing aid technology as you would expect from Phonak. The rechargeable devices will be available at every level of technology for the first time.
While Made For iPhone hearing aids are well established, Phonak decided to go a different way with their mobile phone connectivity. They chose one that would give them a direct connection to any mobile phone. Phonak relied on the traditional Bluetooth protocol, which offered huge benefits. It meant that any hearing aid they produced would be technically able to connect to any Bluetooth enabled device, not just phones. That strategy also presented real technical difficulties. The first Made For Any Phone hearing devices did not offer stereo audio streaming of phone calls or any other audio. It also ensured that Phonak's quite famous ear to ear features did not work.
The new Marvel platform does not have any of those limitations. The Marvel will allow users to experience stereo streaming audio from any Bluetooth enabled device, that includes most mobile phones available, computers, even some modern TVs. Marvel users can have that audio streaming with the full benefits of Phonak's ear to ear features (Binaural Voice Streaming Technology BVST for short). That all means an outstanding new hearing aid platform with no limitations.
These hearing devices are hugely multi-functional and feature-rich. The Marvel contains probably every single one of the current headline features in the hearing aid world, and they have even thrown in some new ones, here’s the quick list:
Marvel will directly stream stereo audio from any device capable of streaming audio via Bluetooth. This includes almost any device you can think of. You can connect it directly to your Android phone; you can connect it directly to your Mac Book or Windows laptop. You can even connect it directly to any Bluetooth enabled television. That is pretty amazing, that is a direct connection without any streamer. The quality of streaming audio is excellent; audio is full and clear. Music is warm and full, and phone calls are clear.
The Marvel delivers true hands-free calling in stereo. You will hear your phone calls in both ears giving you a better chance at understanding what is being said. Hands-free means you don't need to touch your phone. Your phone can be up to thirty feet away. You simply hit the button on your hearing aid to answer the call.
The Bluetooth connection is being used for more than just audio streaming though. They will also use that same connection for data exchange between the mobile phone and the hearing aids. This ability offers much more benefits for consumers and professionals alike. The data exchange is the core of the new ability to remotely fine tune the hearing aids in real time and for the user to give real-time day to day feedback with the new Hearing Diary.
The new remote fine-tuning system is excellent, a video calling system gives the same feeling of face to face interaction, just in a different way. While the remote support may not be for everyone, I think it will be welcomed by people who see it as a real alternative to in-clinic appointments
They have also introduced a new speech to text app with the new products. The new app acts as a transcription system which allows users to read what is being said by the person on the other end of the phone. It works in real time and thanks to hands-free phone calling you can carry on the conversation while you read the dialogue. The app will allow people with hearing loss extra help to understand people on their mobile phone.
Phonak's Roger system is the Gold Standard in FM assistive devices for people with hearing loss. All Marvel hearing aids will be able to be upgraded in late 2019 by hearing care professionals so that the new RogerDirect™ system can be added to the hearing aids allowing Roger microphone equipment to stream directly to Marvel hearing aids without having to attach an external receiver. That is something special and it will provide even better benefit for people in complex sound environments.
The Audeo Marvel R is Phonak's latest rechargeable Made For Any Phone hearing aid, it is quite discreet and can be used with several receiver variations meaning it can cover a lot of hearing losses. The device will connect directly to any Bluetooth enabled Mobile phone and will stream phone calls and audio in stereo.
The Audeo Marvel 312 is a very small RIC device which uses a size 312 battery, it is quite discreet and can be used with several receiver variations meaning it can cover a lot of hearing losses. It doesn't have a telecoil although as always it is a wireless device. The device will connect directly to any Bluetooth enabled Mobile phone and will stream phone calls and audio in stereo.
The Audeo Marvel 312T is a small RIC device which uses a 312 battery, it is still very discreet and can be used with several receiver variations meaning it can cover a lot of hearing losses. This device will have a telecoil. The device will connect directly to any Bluetooth enabled Mobile phone and will stream phone calls and audio in stereo.
The Audeo Marvel 13T is a RIC device that will use a size 13 battery. It will be slightly bigger than the 312, but still pretty discrete. It can be used with several receiver variations meaning it can cover a lot of hearing losses. The device will connect directly to any Bluetooth enabled Mobile phone and will stream phone calls and audio in stereo.
The Audeo Marvel RT is a rechargeable RIC hearing aid which will have a telecoil. It can be used with several receiver variations meaning it can cover a lot of hearing losses. The device will connect directly to any Bluetooth enabled Mobile phone and will stream phone calls and audio in stereo.
Phonak have also changed the push button on the devices, they now offer a rocker switch instead for more functionality.
While the Marvel hearing aids will connect directly to Bluetooth enabled TVs, Phonak have also introduced a new TV Streamer. The TV streamer allows low energy streaming offering great audio and reduced battery usage.
As I said, these hearing aids aren't de-featured in any way. They include all of the latest Phonak features including their much-celebrated ear to ear features. They also have a brand new sound management system called Autosense 3.0 which recognises and automatically adapts to precisely match more listening situations than ever before. Autosense 3.0 also classifies streamed signals and will adapt how it works to better help you to hear the way you should.
Phonak have now introduced the full range of their new Virto M in the ear products. The range will include a Marvel Titanium, two Marvel CIC devices, one with a size 10 battery and the other with a size 312, a Bluetooth enabled In The Canal/Half Shell model powered by a 312 battery and the Virto Black, basically the same as the 312 In The Canal/Half Shell model but with a black case.
Only the Virto Black and the Virto 312 In The Canal/Half Shell device will have the full Marvel functionality including the amazing connectivity. The other devices will not have connectivity. I think that raises a conundrum, at least for me. I don't see any point in upgrading to a Marvel Virto from earlier Phonak Virto products unless I am getting the amazing connectivity.
Obviously, that is a question for you rather than me, but if you are after one of the invisible versions, think about it carefully.
The range will be available in the usual four levels of technology, the 90, 70, 50 and 30.
The Virto Titanium invisible hearing aids will be available across the top two levels of technology. The Marvel Titanium will not have any connectivity.
The Virto Black is a new concept from Phonak. A cross over device that looks like a typical hearable device. The device is a Bluetooth enabled hearing aid that shares the same benefits as the wider Marvel range including connection to any mobile phone and access to the outstanding RogerDirect system from Phonak.
The Virto M-10 NW O range is available across four levels of technology. It is a non-wireles device and will have no connectivity
The Virto M-312 NW O range will be available across four levels of technology. The device offers a very discreet profile but the benefit of a bigger battery. It is a non-wireles device and will have no connectivity
The Marvel 312 device is a Bluetooth enabled hearing aid that shares the same benefits as the wider Marvel range including connection to any mobile phone and access to the outstanding RogerDirect system from Phonak.
The Bolero Marvel range is the latest range of Behind The Ear hearing aids from Phonak. It consists of just two hearing aid models, The Bolero Marvel M and the Bolero Marvel PR which is a little strange. Both devices really only cover hearing losses up to moderate to severe. Phonak would usually introduce a larger range of Bolero devices includinh a device that would cover severe to profound hearing loss. This time, they haven't, I think that means that we will see the Naida Marvel range of hearing aids introduced soon.
We sell the Bolero Marvel range at prices from £1200.00 to £1700.00
The Bolero Marvel M is a pretty discrete mini BTE with a multi-functional button, not unlike the button used on the Audeo. The M can be fitted with a slim tube (which you can see above) or an ear hook for traditional tubing and ear mould. The M will cover hearing losses down to 75 dB in the low to 95 dB in the high frequencies. That, of course, depends on configuration, with the slim tube fitted, that reduces to 80 to 85 dB in the high frequencies. The M has all of the features of the Marvel platform with a direct connection to any Bluetooth mobile phones and Roger devices. However, the M does not have a telecoil onboard so a connection to a Loop System is out. The device will be available in the four levels of technology, the 90, the 70, the 50 and the 30
The Bolero Marvel PR is slightly larger than the M, but it is still relatively discrete. It uses the same multi-functional button as the smaller M. The PR is a lithium-ion powered rechargeable hearing aid can be fitted with a slim tube (which you can see above) or an ear hook for traditional tubing and ear mould. The PR will cover hearing losses down to 80 dB in the low to 100 dB in the high frequencies. That, of course, depends on configuration, with the slim tube fitted, that reduces to 70 in the low and 90 dB in the high frequencies.
The PR has all of the features of the Marvel platform with a direct connection to any Bluetooth mobile phones and Roger devices. It also has a telecoil onboard so it can be used to connect to a Loop System. Phonak say that you will get a full day of use out of one charge and use time is similar to the Audeo. The device will be available in the four levels of technology, the 90, the 70, the 50 and the 30
The Audeo B-Direct was the first-ever Made For iPhone hearing aids Launched by Phonak. However, it is more than Made For iPhone. In fact, it is a Made For Any Phone hearing aid. There are several caveats here though, the audio from a phone call will only stream to one ear, while the other is attenuated to give you a better opportunity to hear the caller. The other caveat is that because Phonak is not using their own audio streaming system, you lose some of their amazing situational programmes such as Speech in loud noise, Speech in 360 and Speech in wind in the top of the range 90 level of technology.
Phonak introduced a really revolutionary hearing aid that changes wireless connection to a mobile phone forever. The Audeo B-Direct connects to any Bluetooth® enabled mobile phone, directly without a streamer. Even better, it offers true hands-free calling. As it supports the classic Bluetooth protocol, it provides direct connectivity to cell phones – including AndroidTM, iPhone® and even classic cell phones – with no extra body-worn streaming device required.
The hearing aids offer real hands-free voice calling. The wearer can answer or reject a phone call by simply pressing the push button on their hearing aid. The ringing of the phone is heard through the hearing aids and once the call is accepted, the conversation is instantly streamed. You don’t even need to pick up your phone. Your voice is picked up by the hearing aid’s intelligent microphone network and transmitted to the other caller similar to a wireless headset.
They have also introduced an accompanying TV Connector, which uses their proprietary AirStreamTM technology. It is designed to be a state-of-the-art compact multimedia hub that seamlessly connects wearers to their favourite TV programming for an immersive audio experience. It’s a plug and play solution that automatically turns a pair of Audéo B-Direct hearing aids into wireless TV headphones. The TV Connector can also connect and transmit to multiple sets of Audéo B-Direct hearing aids simultaneously. That’s a pretty good solution for couples with hearing loss.
Android is the predominant player in the smartphone market with an estimated four out of every five smartphones being Android. The Audéo B-Direct will now bring direct streaming to this neglected market while also providing compatibility with Apple’s iPhone. More than that though, the new solution allows users who own a classic cell phone to avail of direct streaming as well.
The device is a receiver in canal (RIC) hearing aid which means that it will be suitable for a wide range of hearing losses and users. It is also the first device to make use of Sonova’s revolutionary SWORD chip and wireless radio technology. They say that the low-voltage radio chip has the lowest power consumption of any hearing aid using Bluetooth Classic.
The device uses a size thirteen battery and Phonak reports some excellent battery life figures. They say that the battery should last for six days with one hour of phone use and 3 hours of TV per day. Real-world experience will vary though, some people like to talk on the phone more and watch a lot more TV.
The new device will be available in three levels of technology, the 90, the 70 and the 50, so there will be no entry level device.
There is a new app to go with the devices for smartphones; the app offers the typical features you would expect. such as:
The app will show a list of the available audio sources and allow the user to control the balance of audio when streaming.
Phonak Virto B was the world’s first hearing aids with Biometric Calibration, which take your individual ear anatomy and hearing needs into account. That's an interesting description.
They say that they will identify over 1600 biometric data points in and on your ear, and the unique calibration settings are calculated for each Virto B hearing aid. In this way, Virto B is able to more reliably sense where a sound is coming from, thereby giving you access to better hearing performance.
What does that all mean? Well, we think that Phonak is the first ever hearing aid manufacturer to carefully map the outer ear to take advantage of its natural abilities. They say that the new process will deliver a 2dB signal to noise ratio improvement. Basically, it means it will make the signal (what you want to listen to) 2dB higher than the noise.
2dB doesn't sound like much but combined with all the other strategies that Phonak use it will be a marked improvement. Phonak Virto B is available in six models to match your hearing needs. It is also available in the usual four levels of technology, the 90, 70, 50 and 30.
Virto Titanium OverviewVirto B90 Virto B70
Phonak introduced a new Virto hearing aid type as part of their Virto Belong range. The device was quite groundbreaking, it was the first hearing aid device to use medical grade titanium to form the custom shell. While this alone is innovative, they have used the properties of the metal to ensure that they can offer discreet custom hearing aids to more people than ever.
They named the hearing aid the Virto B-Titanium and say it will be the most discreet in ear device they have ever made. It is a fascinating device that uses titanium for the shell instead of the usual hard acrylic. This is the first time that titanium has been used in the manufacture of a custom hearing aid.
Virto B-Titanium is the smallest Phonak in-the-ear hearing aid ever! It is for all intent and purpose an invisible hearing aid device.
Using titanium allows for a shell that’s half as thin as traditional custom shells. This will result in a deep, comfortable fit. Phonak say that the overall size is reduced significantly, thus increasing invisible-in-the-canal (IIC) fit rate by 64%. That simply means that more people than ever will be physically suitable for their latest invisible hearing aid.
The device comes available with three levels of power which allows it to cover even more hearing losses than ever before. Because of the use of Titanium, it also allows for bigger vents in their hearing aids which means less occlussion problems for people with good low frequency hearing.
Virto B-Titanium features AutoSense OS™. It adapts to every sound environment automatically for excellent hearing performance everywhere. There will be no need to manually adjust the hearing aids. Although, they can come with an optional push button for just that.
The Virto B-Titanium will only be available in the 90 and the 70 levels of technology.
The material is exceptionally strong, which allows Phonak to make the shell much thinner than ever before with even more strength. This combined with new component design allows them to deliver an invisible hearing device that they say will fit 68% more ears.
The deep position in the ear canal of the device will allow the hearing aid to use the natural shape of the ear to funnel sound to the microphone. This strategy has always proved to deliver excellent directional hearing.
While invisible hearing aids can be a bit hit and miss for suitability, Phonak say that their new designs and materials will in fact make the hearing aids suitable for more people than ever. While that will most definitely be the case, there will still be some limitations on ability to fit. I would imagine if the bends in the ear canal are too tight, it will preclude this device from being suitable.
Other contra indications are the same as every other invisible hearing aid such as excessive waxy ear canals, history of mid ear infections or perforated eardrums. If you face these issues, this will not be the product for you. In these cases other discreet hearing aids may be more advisable to consider.

The P hearing aid style is quite a powerful aid and can be expected to be fitted to people with severe hearing loss. The device has a programme button, volume control and a telecoil onboard. The amplification output of this aid demands a lot of power, so Phonak must be very confident with the battery technology.
In line with the Audeo Belong, the range will run on the new improved AutoSense OS and will come in the usual four levels of technology. However, the new rechargeable option will not be available in the lowest level of technology.
The Bolero Belong range is a full model line up with four models. They will include B50-M, B50-P, B50-SP, and the rechargeable B50-PR.

Audeo B90 Audeo B70 Audeo B50 Audeo B30
The Audeo Belong Receiver In Canal hearing device range is the first Phonak hearing device range with a rechargeable option. This in itself is quite an amazing innovation and a new direction for them. However there is much more that is new in this range than just that, the Belong comes with an upgraded operating system, the latest version of Phonak's SoundRecover2 and new microphones and programme buttons.
The range uses the existing Venture chipset and is available in four technology levels, the 90, the 70, the 50 and the 30, although the rechargeable option is not available in the 30 level of technology, perhaps in the next platform. That is a pity because the rechargeable hearing devices are proving amazingly popular.
The operating system in the Belong range is an updated version of Phonak's Autosense OS. They have improved the system with new settings that manage how the system works. Phonak's continued research on AutoSense OS gave them the opportunity to make it even better.
They have tweaked the operating system, changing how the hearing aids respond to changes in the sound environment. They say that these changes deliver even better speech intelligibility across the different settings.
SoundRecover2 is Phonak's latest version of their frequency compression strategy. It is feature that moves high frequency sounds in speech into lower areas of hearing. It is exceptionally useful for people who have little or no hearing in their high frequency range. The feature works only when needed, for instance if a sound is in an area of hearing where you simply could not hear it.
In cases like this normal amplification will simply not work well, SoundRecover2 moves the sound to an area where the is usable hearing, which will allow you to hear the sound information you need to understand speech. The new and updated version was first introduced in the new Naida Venture and there has been excellent reports about it from users.
The Audeo Belong has a new style of button which is more functional and a new microphone system. While the button change is designed to make the aids easier to use, the microphone change is probably the most important. The new microphone system is designed to make the devices sound better in both noise and quiet.
The range itself is a relatively typical full line Audeo offering, so that is a full range of Receiver in Canal devices. Let's take a look:
Very small RIC device using a size 10 battery, it is quite discreet and can be used with several receiver variations meaning it can cover a lot of hearing losses. It doesn't have a telecoil although as always it is a wireless device. It has a button but no volume control.
Again a very small RIC device, however, it uses a size 312 battery, it is still very discreet and can be used with several receiver variations meaning it can cover a lot of hearing losses. Like the 10, it doesn't have a telecoil although as always it is a wireless device. It has a button but no volume control.
Slightly bigger than the 312, it is still a small and discrete device RIC which uses a size 312 battery, it can be used with several receiver variations meaning it can cover a lot of hearing losses. Un-like the 10 and the 312, it has a telecoil as well as being a wireless device. It has a button but no volume control.
The largest of the Audeo B RIC range, it runs on a size 13 battery and can be used with several receiver variations meaning it can cover a lot of hearing losses. The 13 comes fully loaded with both a telecoil, programme button and a volume control as well as being a wireless device.
The RIC device that all the hype has been about, a rechargeable hearing device running on Lithium-ion power. A solid 24 hours of use from one three hour charge. It can be used with several receiver variations meaning it can cover a lot of hearing losses down to profound. It is also a wireless device with a programme button but no volume control or telecoil.
With the launch of the new Belong Audeo 90 platform of RIC hearing aids, Phonak have launched their much anticipated top of the range lithium-ion rechargeable RIC, the Audeo B90-R . It is the first Lithium-ion rechargeable RIC to the market and the first ever rechargeable digital hearing aid for Phonak. They say that the battery pack will deliver 24 hours of hearing with one simple charge (expected results when fully charged, and up to 80 minutes wireless streaming time). You can take a more detailed look at the Belong B90 range of hearing aids here.
This is the very top level of Phonak technology, designed to deliver outstanding results in even the most difficult situation. If you are looking for assistance for an active life, well this is the technology level for you.
Audeo B90 hearing aids recognise and automatically adapt to more of your listening situations than ever before. In line with the Audeo Belong, the range will run on the new improved AutoSense OS. You also get five extra manual programs to work with for maximum fine tuning for different situations.

With the launch of the new Belong Audeo 70 platform of RIC hearing aids, Phonak have launched their much anticipated advanced range lithium-ion rechargeable RIC, the Audeo B70-R . It is the first Lithium-ion rechargeable RIC to the market and the first rechargeable digital hearing aid for Phonak. They say that the battery pack will deliver 24 hours of hearing with one simple charge (expected results when fully charged, and up to 80 minutes wireless streaming time). You can take a more detailed look at the Belong B70 range of hearing aids here.
While this range is a step down from the Belong 90 level of technology, it is still an outstanding offering packed with great features. You can expect pretty good results from these hearing aids even in noisier situations. Phonak have been careful to retain many of the top of the range features, even if they are not automatic in this level, they are still on board the hearing aids.
Belong Audeo B70 hearing aids recognise and automatically adapt to your listening situations. The range will run on the new improved AutoSense OS. At this level of technology it has four automatic programmes that seamlessly blend together to give you the best hearing possible. Imagine yourself moving from a quiet conversation in the car to the noise of the city, then into a restaurant for a nice dinner with your loved ones. For many years, hearing instrument users had to continuously adjust their devices when moving from one of these situations into another. Today, the exclusive Phonak SoundFlow technology automatically creates a special program for each unique situation. This way, Versata can provide the optimum combination of comfort and clarity, no matter where your life in motion takes you.
A whistling sound called feedback is one of the most common annoyances of hearing instruments. Thanks to WhistleBlock Technology Versata functions reliably without the annoyance of feedback.
When microphones are placed outside the ear, natural localization cues can be lost, so it can be difficult to tell where sounds are coming from. Real Ear Sound, another Phonak innovation, solves this problem.
Hearing and understanding at a dinner party or a family gathering with a lot of background noise can be quite a challenge. Directional microphone technology is the only proven method of enhancing understanding in environments with background noise. Versta employs VoiceZoom which offers the best possible performance in situations with background noise.
Wind over a microphone can cause annoying noise and make it more difficult to hear and understand. With WindBlock Management you can now feel perfectly at ease in any outdoor activity.
Environmental noises like motors, fans and engines can be quite uncomfortable. NoiseBlock Processing effectively diminishes these bothersome sounds.
Naida wearers hear more. Previously inaudible, high frequencies become audible again. Not only speech comprehension, but also one's own voice quality can be improved. The water resistant and ergonomically slim design delivers unlimited wearing comfort, even when exercising or walking in the rain. Nada, available in 13 and 675 sizes, is absolutely reliable, guaranteed.
People with a significant hearing loss have difficulty recognizing key speech information, such as high frequency consonants like /f/, /s/, and /sh/. These inaudible gaps make daily communication extremely difficult and tiring.
SoundRecover effectively extends the audible range by compressing and shifting inaudible high frequencies into an adjacent area with audible hearing. Extensive, worldwide field studies have shown: Restoration of high frequency audibility, spontaneous user acceptance, quick acclimatization and significant improvements of own voice quality.
