Hear Better, Feel Better

Hearing Better Will Help You Feel Better

Better hearing helps you enjoy a better life

What are the options for improving your hearing?

Hearing loss is a slow and gradual process that may develop over a period of 25 to 30 years. The rate of hearing loss is different from person to person as there are individual factors involved like general health, exposure to noise and underlying genetics.

By the time you reach the age of 55 to 60, there can be enough deterioration to interfere with general conversation. That problem can have a knock-on effect on your social life and your general happiness. Hearing aids can help you regain most of your hearing to allow you to reclaim your self-confidence and social life.

Causes and Symptoms of Hearing Loss

It is typical for people with a mild to moderate hearing loss to be unaware of their problem, even though family and friends are quite aware of it. Hearing loss is a slow process, so slow that the person who suffers with it tends not to notice. As a hearing care professional I believe that hearing loss in older adults is the accumulation of two or more causes, such as:

  • Exposure to loud noises
  • Family history

Hearing loss can affect you in several ways, including

  • Preventing the quality of life you’re used to
  • Restrict your ability to interact with others
  • Prevent you from hearing important information
  • Cause misunderstandings
  • Heighten stress and damage relationships
  • Filter out the subtle sounds of nature

Your hearing loss could be improved effectively by individually selected, prescribed and fitted hearing aids.

The following simple four questions are taken from a typical hearing self-check. Answering yes to one doesn’t mean you have a problem, answering yes to more than one could indicate that you have some hearing loss.

  • Do people seem to mumble?
  • Do you favour one ear over the other?
  • Have you been told that the TV is too loud?
  • Have family and friends commented on your inability to hear?

Regaining your hearing

As a hearing care professional, I am trained in the identification of hearing loss. I am also knowledgeable in the selection, fitting, and proper use of hearing aids.  I am registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (in much the same way as your family doctor is) to allow me to dispense hearing aids. I can help you learn if you have a hearing loss, and if so, what that hearing loss is. You’ll also find out what can be done to improve your hearing, and if hearing aids can help and the type and style best suited to your own unique hearing loss.
