The Resound One 5 hearing aids are the latest premium entry-level, Made For iPhone and Made For Android hearing aid technology from GN ReSound.

ReSound announced the introduction of their new ReSound One hearing aid platform on August 18th 2020 but they officially launched them at a virtual global event on September 1st. There is a lot of new with this platform. The 5, of course, is the entry-level platform and it will not have all of the latest technology on-board. It still benefits from new features and a new chip, however, it doesn't offer the breakthrough microphone placement.

A Brand New Chip

Their brand-new sound processing chipset delivers 50% more processing power and 220% more memory than the previous chipset to provide sound with greater depth and direction without compromising battery life.

No Microphone in The Receiver

Unfortunately, the One 5 can not utilise the new M&RIE receiver. It means that you lose the benefit of that new microphone placement. Having said that, it still offers two mics on the aid just like all of the other manufacturers.

Made For iPhone, Made For Android

The ReSound ONE platform will offer connectivity options to both iOS and AndroidTM smartphones for streaming and hearing aid control.

One 5 Feature Set

The overall feature set of the 5 technology level is as follows, each hearing aid may not have the full range of features here

Environmental Optimizer II

This feature allows the hearing aids to work together to analyse the listening environment you are in. It then automatically adjusts the features and amplification to deliver the best experience for you. 

What That Means

Knowing what the sound situation around you accurately is really important, so this feature identifies the situation with high accuracy and then manages the feature set of the hearing aids to deliver the very best hearing for you. This feature and its accuracy is imperative for the function of the aids. Resound are quoting really high accuracy and our experience concurs. 

Noise Tracker II

This is a unique noise reduction system that works on the basis of spectral subtraction. It reduces unwanted noise without affecting the speech signal. 

What That Means

The really important bit here is that it seems to do what they are saying. It is excellent on any noise that is steady state (which means recurring similarly) like engine noise, background hum of any kind.

DFS Ultra III With Music Mode

A high precision feedback system that allows the cancellation of feedback with extreme accuracy. This new feedback control allows the use of the M&RIE receiver. The Music mode is a slower acting system which allows better handling of music.

What That Means

Feedback is probably one of the most annoying things for users. The feedback system allows the amplification that you need without causing that damned irritating whistling. Having a system which also has a music mode means that your appreciation of music will be better. Sometimes music can sound like feedback, a music mode allows the system a little more time to make sure it isn't and do nothing. That means less distortion for you. 

Resound Assist

Resound Assist will allow your provider to adjust your hearing aids remotely. That means if you want adjustments on the go, they can be provided without you having to attend the clinic. The system is really easy to use and is quite intuitive. This might not be for everyone, but this feature will be a godsend for the people who love it. It will allow them complete freedom over their experience, over their customer experience.

The App, Resound Smart 3D

The accompanying app also allows you personalise your hearing experience in a deeper way. It has been re-designed to be more intuitive and easier to use and it offers real control. Again, this might not be for everyone, but for those who want it, it will enrich their experience. Again, this has to be seen as an excellent thing.

Custom By ReSound 5 Series

ReSound have now delivered custom hearing aids to the excellent One platform and they have extended their outstanding rechargable system to In The Ear hearing aids for the first time ever. ReSound offers some of the most outstanding rechargeable aids available.  They offer excellent battery life in nice discreet packages. The new Custom By ReSound rechargeables are no exception offering 24 hours of use even when streaming all day. The range is made up of two types, the CIC (Completely In Canal), and the rechargeable device which can be built in ITC (In The Canal), half-shell and full-shell

Unlike some of the instant-fit rechargeable devices available from other manufacturers, these are true custom devices, which means that we need to take an impression of your ears and send it away. They then manufacture the devices to fit the unique shape of your ears. With the custom rechargeable though, they don't just stop there, the charger is manufactured as a perfect copy of your ear canals to ensure the devices sit in it exactly. Meaning that they will be charged every time.

With the exception of the CIC, these are dual microphone devices, and they all run on the One platform. They offer them at three distinct technology levels like other ReSound model types. They haven't quite integrated them into the One range keeping them separate, but the technology that powers One will power them. 

 

ReSound says that Custom made by ReSound delivers three innovations:

1. An industry first, Custom's charger contains two specially created inserts that match the shape of each hearing aid for seamless, reliable charging. The aids will offer up to 24 hours of use time on a single charge–even when streaming–for all-day use.
2. A reimagined push button that is accessible over a much more significant portion of the faceplate.
3. Custom delivers a 30% improvement in speech understanding in noise and 1-2 dB more directional benefit compared to the company's previous custom product, ReSound LiNX Quattro.

That Charger

The new custom insert in the recharger is a brilliant idea. The insert mirrors the hearing aid shell's shape. It means good electrical contact between the aid and recharger ensuring they charge properly every time. It also makes it much easier for you to slip the hearing aids into place which makes it easy to use for anyone with dexterity issues.

Choice of Colours

Custom made by ReSound will come in a choice of colours and will be available in a new In-style™ anthracite colour, or Blend-in™ hair and skin tones.

The devices will come in ITC, half-shell or full-shell, there is a new CIC (Completely In Canal) as well, but it isn't a rechargeable device. Too small to get a rechargeable battery into. They will provide all of the features that the 5 technology level has to offer.
