Phonak hearing aids are renowned for Swiss quality and reliability. The new Lumity from Phonak looks like it will build upon the runaway success of their Marvel and Paradise ranges. The Lumity 70 range of digital hearing aids is their Advanced range. They feature Phonak's latest high-performance technology and are designed to provide you with an outstanding listening experience. A lot of the features available on the 90 range are available on the 70, but there are some missing. That doesn't mean that these devices won't help you if your lifestyle needs are ideal for them.
So what have they got to offer,
The Audeo was the first hearing aid style to be introduced on the Lumity platform and the family initially consisted of three Receiver In Canal devices, all rechargeable. They have recently expanded the range adding a new RIC and Behind The Ear devices. Phonak Audeo Lumity 70 hearing aids recognise and automatically adapt to more of your listening situations than ever before. The range will run on their new improved AutoSense OS 5.0. At this level of technology, the management system has six automatic programmes that seamlessly blend to give you the best hearing possible. You also get four extra manual programs to work with for maximum fine-tuning for different situations.
The Lumity is introduced with a new shape charger for the L-R and L-RT and the Charger Case Go for the Audeo Life. The Audeo Life is going to be the slightly dearer model, however, the Charger Case Go may be worth that extra money if you are an active, on-the-go type. The Charger Case Go can charge the Life aids three times without plugging in.
These hearing devices are hugely multi-functional and feature-rich. The Lumity contains probably every single one of the current headline features in the hearing aid world, and they have even thrown in some new ones, here’s a quick list:
The Audeo Lumity R is Phonak's latest rechargeable Made For Any Phone hearing aid, it is quite discreet and can be used with several receiver variations meaning it can cover a lot of hearing losses. The device offers a direct connection to two active Bluetooth devices and will pair with up to eight.
The Audeo Lumity Life is designed for more active individuals, offering the best protection against water and dust incursion. It also has the best charger, the Charge Case Go system which is outstanding for active people. It can be used with several receiver variations meaning it can cover a lot of hearing losses. The device offers a direct connection to two active Bluetooth devices and will pair with up to eight.
The Audeo Lumity RT is a rechargeable RIC hearing aid which will have a telecoil. It can be used with several receiver variations meaning it can cover a lot of hearing losses. The device offers a direct connection to two active Bluetooth devices and will pair with up to eight. This model will not offer the Motion Hearing feature or the Tap Control.
The Audeo Lumity 312 is a traditional battery-powered RIC hearing aid. It can be used with several receiver variations meaning it can cover a lot of hearing losses. The device offers a direct connection to two active Bluetooth devices and will pair with up to eight. This model will not offer the Motion Hearing feature or the Tap Control.
Naída Lumity is the Behind-the-Ear (BTE) style of advanced hearing aids from Phonak designed for a wider variety of hearing needs. They come in two models: Naída Lumity L-PR is a versatile rechargeable BTE, and Naída L-UP is an ultra-power device with a disposable size 675 battery designed particularly for people with severe to profound hearing loss. Both contain the best advanced Lumity features, although there are some differences. The rechargeable Naída L-PR comes with a motion sensor and tap controls, while the battery-powered Naída L-UP model does not; however, the L-UP comes with a telecoil while the L-PR does not.
Naída Lumity 70 is the Behind-the-Ear (BTE) style of premium hearing aids from Phonak designed for a wider variety of hearing needs. The Naida Lumity 70 comes in three models, the Naída Lumity L-PR, a versatile rechargeable BTE, Naída L-UP, an ultra-power device with a traditional size 675 battery designed particularly for people with severe to profound hearing loss, and finally, a Naida L-SP, a super-power device with traditional size 13 batteries.
They all contain the best advanced Lumity features, although there are some differences. The rechargeable Naída L-PR comes with a motion sensor and tap controls, while the battery-powered Naída L-UP and L-SP models do not; however, the L-UP and SP both offer a telecoil while the L-PR does not.
Phonak Lumity 70 hearing aids recognise and automatically adapt to more of your listening situations than ever before. The range will run on their new improved AutoSense OS 5.0. At this level of technology, the management system has six automatic programmes that seamlessly blend to give you the best hearing possible. You also get four extra manual programs to work with for maximum fine-tuning for different situations.
The new hearing aids have an upgraded central management system called AutoSense to 5.0. AutoSense manages all of the other features, deciding what needs to change to ensure you hear your best as the sound around you does. Phonak has continually upgraded its management system as advances in chipsets and both Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning in audiology increase.
Lumity will allow users to experience stereo streaming audio from any Bluetooth enabled device just like the Marvel before it. That includes most mobile phones available, computers, even some modern TVs. Lumity users can have that audio streaming with the full benefits of Phonak's ear to ear features (Binaural Voice Streaming Technology BVST for short). The Lumity goes one better than the Marvel with an active connection to two Bluetooth enabled devices, that means you can use two phones, your business one and your private one, without the hassle of disconnecting and reconnecting. In fact, you can use any two devices like a phone and a tablet, or a phone and your computer, and simply switch between them without hassle.
With the Audeo Lumity range you will have access to key health performance indicators, such as step count and activity le vels, enabling you to set health goals and achieve an improved sense of well-being.
The new Tap Control feature allows users to activate popular voice assistants, answer or reject calls, or even pause or resume audio streaming by simply tapping on their ear. Phonak is using the new motion sensors to power the feature. It means that you can do more with your hearing aids without worrying about the buttons. It is only available on the rechargeable versions though.
The motion sensors are used to help the hearing aids understand if you are in motion. If you are in motion and having a conversation with someone, the aids understand that and change how they work to help you hear them better. Again, this is only available on the rechargeable versions.
The new remote fine-tuning system is excellent, a video calling system gives the same feeling of face to face interaction, just in a different way. While the remote support may not be for everyone, I think it will be welcomed by people who see it as a real alternative to in-clinic appointments.
Phonak's Roger system is the Gold Standard in FM assistive devices for people with hearing loss. All Lumity hearing aids will be enabled for the RogerDirect™ system. This allows Roger microphone equipment to stream directly to Lumity hearing aids without having to attach an external receiver.
Lumity will directly stream stereo audio from any device capable of streaming audio via Bluetooth. This includes almost any device you can think of. You can connect it directly to your Android phone; you can connect it directly to your Mac Book or Windows laptop. You can even connect it directly to any Bluetooth enabled television. That is pretty amazing, that is a direct connection without any streamer. The quality of streaming audio is excellent; audio is full and clear. Music is warm and full, and phone calls are clear.
The Lumity delivers true hands-free calling in stereo. You will hear your phone calls in both ears giving you a better chance at understanding what is being said. Hands-free means you don't need to touch your phone. Your phone can be up to thirty feet away. You simply hit the button on your hearing aid to answer the call.
While the Lumity hearing aids will connect directly to Bluetooth enabled TVs, Phonak's TV Streamer is a better bet. The TV streamer allows low energy streaming offering great audio and reduced battery usage.
